Volunteer
There are so many ways that your help can benefit the Free Library and the Friends of the Free Library. Some of them take only a small amount of your time, but make a huge difference to your community.
Branch Friends Groups help ensure that their neighborhood library is a vibrant community resource by promoting programs and library resources, literacy, and raising funds. You don't need to be a Friend to volunteer with the Friends, but why not join? You will meet your neighbors and publicize your library's programs, services, and materials, and create programs that are important and fun. You can raise money for your branch through book sales, bake sales, white elephant sales, bus trips, raffles, and whatever ideas your creativity brings to the table. Each library branch and Group has its own special interests and collection needs. For more information on what Friends Groups do or how to volunteer, contact Amy Dougherty at 215.567.4562 , email Amy, or go to the Library Branches page and scroll to your branch.
The Big Book Sale held each Spring is an annual used book fair to benefit the Friends of the Free Library of Philadelphia, Inc. Volunteers are needed leading up to and throughout the weekend event. For more information, please call 215.567.0527 or email Jonathan.
The Book Corner, operated by the Friends of the Free Library, offers book lovers volunteer opportunities to shelve, sort, and price donated books, as well as assist customers. The bookstore is located at 311 N. 20th St., one block north of the Ben Franklin Parkway, directly behind Central Library on Logan Square, and just five minutes from Routes 95 and 76. For information on volunteering in the store, please call 215.567.0527 or email Jonathan.
This is a great way to help the Free Library of Philadelphia. If you love your library, remember the money to keep it great comes from local and state sources. The ability to keep it free is in your hands.
