Neighborhood Volunteers for Better Libraries

Begun in March 2003, Neighborhood Volunteers for Better Libraries (NVBL) offers on-going training, with technical and organizational support, to increase the capacity and number of viable Library Branch Friends Groups.

The goals of the program are to:

  • Build Friends Group membership
  • Create partnerships within the community
  • Promote library's education resources
  • Produce programs
  • Fundraise for needs specific to branch libraries, including collections and programs
  • Increase circulation
  • Promote cultural awareness
  • Promote literacy
  • Promote life long learning
  • Promote job readiness
  • Promote civic awareness and activities
  • Increase the number of library card holders
