The Next Page - Grand Opening

| Search: |
FFL is currently in the process of opening a second retail book store called The Next Page at 722 Chestnut St. (Grand Opening: May 7, 2010). Following that, we have the Big Book Sale on May 21, 22, & 23. Therefore we are unable to handle any Books for Friends requests until the summer or the fall of 2010. Thank you for your understanding.
Here are a few other sources for free books that might be able to help you:
Book Corner held their Annual Fall Sidewalk Sale on October 17 and 18, 2008. Jonathan, Marc, Kristin, and Samantha, along with many volunteers, worked hard to make the sale run smoothly and it was a huge success. Both days were packed with shoppers and we managed to clear out quite a lot of inventory. Late comers were even treated to a special rate: $10 for a box of books (which was apparently much more popular than previous year’s sales of $1 for a bag of books). Thanks to everyone that came out and shopped and to everyone who worked or volunteered to make this sale the success that it was.
The Emerging Writers Series is hitting the road for an afternoon of reading at the Independence Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia (located on 7th Street between Market and Chestnut). Book Corner, the Free Library of Philadelphia, and Tamara Oakman present this event on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. featuring:
Paul Siegell is psyched like a “ReVeLeR @ eYeLeVeL” to be the author of Poemergency Room (Otoliths Books, 2008). “Let’s get into the song!” Staff editor at Painted Bride Quarterly, Paul has contributed to The American Poetry Review, MiPO, BlazeVOX, Coconut, and other fine journals, and has also been featured in Paste Magazine and the Philadelphia City Paper. Kindly find more of his work at paulsiegell.blogspot.com.
Daniel Schall was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and holds a BA in English from Arcadia University. He publishes his own chapbook, The Fridge Door, and has been featured in The Light of Unity Festival, BLAM!, and the Philly Fringe Festival. His poetry is best described as “anti-ideological, a championing of the happy agony that is the postmodern condition.”
Ian Wolf has been writing poetry and studying music for 15 years. “Music and poetry go together,” says Ian, “and I believe that music and poetry tap deep into our souls when we are able to listen.” He has performed at open mics for 10 years; recently at Blam!, The Mermaid Inn, and the Light of Unity Festival at Book Corner. “Ian has a lot of soul. His voice really penetrates the heart,” commented Ebony Collier (recently featured at The Black Women Arts Festival) during The Light of Unity Festival at Book Corner in March.
This reading event will be followed by an open mic and is free and open to the public.

We’re pleased to welcome the new Book Corner manager, Jonathan Sipes. Jonathan comes to Book Corner with 12 years of bookstore management experience, and is a lifelong lover of books. Jonathan is excited and enthused to seek out new avenues to bring more donations to Book Corner, as well as reaching out to book lovers that may not yet be familiar with what we offer. When not lost between the pages of a book, or among the stacks in Book Corner, Jonathan can be found listening to old 78rpm records on his gramophone, bicycling and running in Fairmount Park and along Kelly drive, and generally enjoying life in the Art Museum Area neighborhood.
